Day 2 - Lac La Hache to Dawson Creek BC

Another day of beautiful scenery. We climbed some mountain passes today and as you can imagine, it's slow going in our 33 ft RV towing a car. We had lots of time to take in the beautiful sights of the Continental Divide mountain range and the foothills of the Rockies. Lots of beautiful lakes and rivers too! Craig was on a mission to put on a lot of miles today and he did it!

We saw quite a bit of washout on the road right before Chewynd and spent a little time waiting in lines of vehicles to be escorted through the flood damage on Hwy 97. It was quite evident that a terrible storm had come up in the mountains above and the water came crashing down towards the road. The small creeks couldn't handle the trees and debris that were coming down and in several places it completely wiped out the highway. We were told that it stormed heavily for about 24 hours and it was plain to see the havoc it wreaked on the roads. But thankfully we made it through with a relatively short delay which is amazing since the road was completely closed just two weeks ago.

We had dinner in Chetwynd. We were surprised and entertained by all the large wood carvings along the highway through this small town. We stopped to order a pizza and spent some time walking around looking at them and taking pictures. It was a pleasant diversion after the intense road we just left behind.

We planned 3 days to get to Dawson Creek but with Craig's determination to just go for it, we made it here around 8 pm. That's late to be pulling into an rv park so we spent the night in the Walmart parking lot (most Walmarts allow rv's and campers to spend one night free of charge). We went to bed early and slept well. I woke up thinking that I had overslept but looked at the clock and saw that it was 4 am - the sun rises early and sets late here for sure!

Sorry - this is the only picture that I can get to upload. It's one of the wood carvings we saw along the road (it's a scuba diver in case you can't tell from looking at it). Tonight in Dawson Creek, we have internet but it's slow. There are also electrical storms traveling through so the connection keeps dropping.
