Day 4 - Dawson Creek to Ft Nelson on the Alaska Hwy

Dawson Creek is Mile Zero. Here we are getting started this morning. Doesn't Craig look like he's eager to get on the road? Only 1500 miles to Fairbanks!
Mile Zero of the Alaska Hwy - 8 am  Tuesday 7/12/2016
It was a fairly easy day today. The highway so far is pretty good. Lots of climbing and descending and a few scary turns on long downhills but it went well. Thank goodness Craig is driving and not me, I would have turned around already!

We followed the natural gas pipeline part of the day today. You can just see the flames coming out of the top of the pipes. All along the road, we saw natural gas drills and work camps. It's quite a booming business from the looks of it.

I can't tell you how beautiful it is just driving through this beautiful part of the country and seeing thousands upon thousands upon thousands of trees as far as we can see. It's majestic and oh, so beautiful. It's really hard to take pictures through the window of the rv that do it justice. And on this highway, there are really very few places that an rv can pull over to take a picture. So I do the best that I can out my side window.

We pulled into Fort Nelson in the afternoon and found a nice rv park with good internet (always a bonus). After checking in, we went to the Visitor Centre and the local museum. Craig loved the old time cars he found in the yard of the museum. Although the doors were open and he was able to sit in the seat, thank goodness they didn't leave the keys in the ignition too or he would have tried to take it!
