Wow - what a great day one! We left Seattle just shortly after 5 am. Made a short stop in Bellingham to get supplies and last chance for US price gas and then crossed the border at Sumas. We had only been as far east in BC as Harrison Hotsprings so shortly after 9:30 am, we were already seeing new things and new scenery. Riding up high in the motorhome is a great way to see the road and the vistas along the side. Unfortunately we couldn't stop at Hellsgate for the tram ride across the Frazier River because we couldn't find a pullout big enough to accommodate our long and large load. Craig promised me that we will hit it on the way back.
Since we will be coming back on the same road in early September, we didn't make too many stops today. We had lunch at Cache Creek (eggs, peas and pork - basically Chinese scrambled eggs prepared in the rv on the propane stove. Yummy!!!). Then we walked across the street to an A & W and had an unsatisfying rootbeer float. Instead of soft ice cream, they had prepared blocks of ice cream that they dropped into the rootbeer. I guess we are snobs because we turned our noses up at it.
Back on the road, Craig ran out of gas (not literally but figuratively) around 2 pm and he stopped for a nap at a place called 100 Mile. We never did find out what the 100 miles refers to. Roads here are all marked in kilometers so where they got the 100 miles from, I don't know. After an hour on the couch, Craig was recharged and we hit the road again.
We stopped for the night at a lovely little rv park right off the highway in a place called Lac La Hache, BC. Total mileage for today is 373 miles. Pictures attached (hopefully) are of my view of the road in the passenger seat of the rv, the Frazier River which we followed most of the day, different topography that we started seeing about halfway through the day, wildflowers in our campsite and Craig hiking through the woods at the end of the day. Perfect day! We are happy and feeling very blessed. The only downside was losing both cell phone coverage and internet for most of the day. But then we came on this trip to have an adventure, not to be on our phones and computers.
Gotta go - Craig wants to play cribbage!
Don't let Craig cheat at cribbage Arlene ,Kiki says he likes to do that. Nice pics.
